Does creating electrical power for 25,000 homes, and recovering 11,000 tons of scrap metal sound like a better use of truckloads of trash than creating more mountains of landfill?  Hennepin County residents and businesses generate more than one million tons of waste each year, enough to fill the Target Center 11 times over.

This presentation explains the technology, equipment and processes to operate, maintain and control this recovery operation.  These questions and more will be answered in May at the INCOSE North Star Chapter (NSC) Monthly Meeting.

Presenter: Dr. Nilabh Narayan
 Dr. Narayan is the Senior Operations and Facilities Manager for HERC.  His educational background includes MS & Ph D in Engineering Mechanics,  University of Minnesota, and a B Tech from the Indian Institute ofTechnology, Karagpur, India.

  • Closed-toe, flat-heel shoes or boots are required
  • No high heels or sandals allowed 
  • Long, ankle length pants, socks and long sleeves are required
  • Visitors without appropriate shoes and clothing will not be allowed into the facility
