INCOSE Webinar: "CubeSat"

Date:  24 April 2013
Time: 15:00 UTC/ 11am EDT
Presenter(s): Louise Anderson
General Webinar Details: Webinar 51

Abstract:
The CubeSat is a joint effort between the Space Systems Working Group and the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) initiative. Over the past two years, the team has been collaborating on a framework to define a unified system model of space systems. The CubeSat platform was chosen as example problem because of the current popularity of CubeSat missions to prove out new approaches to design, operations, and as a technology testbeds. Further the use of CubeSat for training makes available a cadre of experimentalist, open-minded systems engineers to work with.
The most recent body of work is to demonstrate the system model as common database to perform multiple engineering investigations:
- Basic resource sizing (data link analysis with ParaMagic)
- Dynamic resource sizing (power analysis with Matlab and STK)
- Simulation of autonomous spacecraft behavior (Cameo Simulation Toolkit activity and state simulation)
The multiple demonstrations are inductive of the ability to rapidly adapt a spacecraft description into input data for many engineering analyses and investigations. They are also significant in showing the power of a standard (SysML) to unify the vendor community in providing inter-operable tools to the engineering community. The importance of the drive via a standard to analysis interchange cannot be overstated.
The webinar will discuss these aspects of the CubeSat effort and provide demonstrations of the analyses described above. This presentation is a reprise of the warmly accepted demonstration at the INCOSE IW MBSE workshop held in Jacksonville this January.
