Abstract:  Joe Calabrese, CEO and General Manager of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) will present an overview of the transit authority and provide information regarding where the authority has been, where it is today, and where it is going in the future. He will describe the organization in terms of its resources (staffing, rolling stock, fuel and energy), financial structure, ridership profile, and governance. Finally, Joe will share his vision of the future of the authority and how it fits within and supports the future of the region.

About the Presenter:  Joseph A. Calabrese: A 30 plus year veteran of both the public side and the private side of the Public Transit Industry, Joe Calabrese serves as CEO & General Manager of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority.  Prior to accepting his current position in Cleveland in 2000, Joe was the President of the Central New York RTA.  With a focus on Customer Service, Image and Strong Financial Management, RTA has increased its customer base as well as the integral role it plays in moving Northeast Ohio forward.  His successes in Cleveland include the agency being named the Best Large Size Transit System in North America, and in Joe being named the Outstanding Transit Manager of the Year.

Joe is on the Board of Directors of the American Public Transportation Association, is past President of both the New York State and Ohio Public Transit Associations, and represents the transit industry on the USDOT ITS Advisory Committee through an appointment by the U. S. Secretary of Transportation.  Locally, Joe is on the Boards of NOACA, Build Up Greater Cleveland, The Downtown Cleveland Alliance, the Senior Transportation Connection and the City/County Workforce Development Board.  Joe holds a Degree in Economics from Syracuse University, an MBA from the University of Buffalo and completed Post Graduate Fellowships at Northeastern University, The University of Chicago and at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
