Chapter Supported Projects

SySTEAM Initiative

INCOSE Cleveland Chapter is participating in SySTEAM event in northeast Ohio in conjunction with the NSBE's STEM initiatives.  https://www.nsbe.org/ .  The first workshop will be held at CWRU on Satuday, December 9th.  INCOSE members from NASA, Vitamix, and Klinger Engineering Services will be volunteering their time.  Vitamix will be sponsoring a breakfast and supplying blenders for the reverse engineering focused workshop.  Anyone interested in helping out, please contact Bill Klinger ( bill@kes1.net ) or Carl Dister ( carldister@ieee.org ) for more information and to get involved.

Embedded Systems Certification Working Group

The purpose of the Embedded Systems Certification Working Group is to work within the Chapter to establish INCOSE as a professional society that recognizes excellence in “Embedded Systems” Engineering, especially in the current era of Internet of Things interconnected as Systems of Systems with heightened importance of Cybersecurity practices from the Cloud to the Electronics.  With a goal of establishing an INCOSE specialty certification, experts from the field of Embedded Systems can share the proven Systems Engineering model and how it applies to their work making complex systems of systems comprising one or many interconnected Internet of Things.  The Working Group's Co-Chairs are Bob Scaccia and Roger Chaplin.

Community Resilience

For the past few years, the Chapter has supported members involved with the ReliabilityFirst and the Ohio State University Extension project to help communities become more resilient. The Project applies a proven systems-engineering appraisal framework to communities in an effort to benchmark current resilience efforts and highlight areas for improvement.  See the flyer (linked here) for details on the project, methods utilized, and expected results.  For more information reach out to the listed contacts, or visit the project page on the ReliabilityFirst website (linked here).

INCOSE Academic Equivalency recognized for University of Michigan
SAN DIEGO (13 May 2021) – The International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) is excited to announce the University of Michigan (U-M) has achieved Academic Equivalency. The Integrative Systems and Design courses; ISD 520, ISD 521, ISD 522, and ISD 503; help students demonstrate their systems engineering knowledge. The University of Michigan is a top-ranked engineering school in the US and achieved Academic Equivalency in February 2020.

With this equivalency in place, students who demonstrate systems engineering knowledge through approved coursework will not have to take the INCOSE Knowledge Exam to get certified as an Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP) to a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP). This knowledge demonstration is key in achieving both ASEP and CSEP certifications making this equivalency a great benefit to the University of Michigan.

Kerry Lunney, INCOSE President stated “The suite of Integrative Systems and Design courses offered by the University of Michigan demonstrates the equivalent knowledge of the INCOSE systems engineering handbook assessed through coursework. This positions the student very well to further pursue their ASEP and CSEP qualifications. This is a great result for both the University and INCOSE and provides testament of the growing collaboration between educators and INCOSE.”

Chapter Circle Awards

The Cleveland-Northern Ohio Chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) began organizing activities during the latter part of 2007, and received charter status from INCOSE during January 2008. As a result of our activities that first year, we received the Bronze level Chapter Circle Award.  We have received a Chapter Circle Award every year since.
