Abstract:
The central theme of sustaining complex systems is finding and mitigating risks in time to mitigate them. These risks are usually in the form of hard-to-see emerging failure modes. Charlie will discuss how his team collaborated with government-run ICBM Guidance Set depot repair to help in the timely detection of new failure modes. Left to their perfectly reasonable goals, repair depots will maximize efficiency, throughput, and productivity. Processes in support of these goals can make it hard to notice emerging system problems.
Professional Biography:
Charlie is a retired USAF colonel and retired aerospace manager with experience as an operator, systems engineer, and sustainer. He is a member of INCOSE, SAME, and AIAA. In AIAA, he is an associate fellow and distinguished lecturer. He has a BS in Astronautical Engineering from the USAF Academy and MS in Systems Management and Mechanical Engineering. He is a graduate of Air War College. In retirement, he speaks on his experiences as a USAF pilot and the concepts behind effective complex system sustainment. See more at his website:
